Humane

Before: Before the speech I was relaxed. I got to class early and got all my pics set up, reminded myself of the timing, and edited my note cards. I knew last time I had to rush at the end and since my outlines were the same length I decided to cut out points to make sure I got in my ending.

During: I was as usual nervous and not very comfortable. I talked much faster than I did at home. This made me more nervous so I talked even faster. I then kept thinking, Hey! I can show the pics one by one more slowly and take up time! But before I noticed what I was doing I sped through the pictures and finished the speech. I knew I was short and I was mad at myself for cutting down the note cards before class.

After: I was upset that I did not do any where near as well as I had hoped. This was disheartening. I still got a good grade. But this just has not been my day.

Marketing

Before: I came to class early a hour early in hopes of being able to to practice my speech in the room and be able to time myself while in the area. Low and behold I was not the first student there. I was actually the second person to come in and think of this. The issue was, was that once we were both there it defeated the purpose because the point was to do it with no pressure. Thinking back we probably should have done it anyway so that we could have given each other feedback.

During: I was less nervous than the first time but it still was not an enjoyable experience. I forgot to wear my contacts so whenever I tried to look at the time cards I kept squinting. Time was one of the main things that I wanted to make sure I was not short on because I was short on the last speech (short haha im 5'0 so short is something im good at) But either way I was glad I got the time down. I knew the material which was nice. But still. Not something Im going to like doing again.

After: After I was just glad it was over. I went early on so I got to sit back and watch everyone else's speeches. It was nice to get it out of the way. And now Im just trying to prepare for the next one!

Life In A Bag

Before: I wrote my speech while at work. I had the hardest time trying to come up with objects because I really don't do much. I don't have many hobbies and I don't have much of a social life. I basically just go to work, clean the house, walk the dogs, make dinner, clean up, go to bed, repeat. That's my life six days a week so its hard to find objects to describe an average life. So I did my best to make my self sound slightly interesting. I went to school early and rehearsed in my car and I was at about five minuets and fifteen seconds. I thought I was was doing well.

During: During my speech I was very nervous so I read off of the cards and I forgot the majority of the things I was going to say that were off the cards. I felt that my face was red so I was trying to not look like a tomato. I also felt my hands get very clammy so I was afraid of people seeing me sweat. It was not pleasant. I also could not find the pen which was part of my speech when I tried to talk about it... But when I had moved on I saw the pen, but after that it was to late. I just am not excited to do that again.

After: After my speech I called my boyfriend to talk to him. We discussed how I thought I did on my speech and it was not well. Next time I think I will spend more time on organization and making sure I keep eye contact. I will be sure to make sure I look at the rubric given to me after my speech and make sure that the issues I had today will not be repeated again. I am almost done writing my next speech so hopefully spending a lot of time on it will get me an A (which would be awesome).
